This year Queensland's young filmmakers raised the bar. We had an astonishing number of documentaries and mockumentaries this year. From our first entry to our final shortlist an engaging sense of humor prevailed. Congratulations to our winners and finalist for 2009 and a big thank you to everyone who sent their films in to Young Filmmakers Festival Queensland.

Brisbane City Council Best Film Award
Young Filmmakers Festival Queensland presents "One Women Show" Which won the "Brisbane City Council Best Film 2009", along with "Best Performance Female" going to Xanthe Dobbie and "Best Script" going to the writer, producer and director, Kelsie Rimmer
In Kelsie's prize pool: A Sony Vaio laptop, a start up scholarship for one unit of study with QUT Creative Industries, 12 months membership and a Master Class workshop with the Queensland Writers Centre, 6 month subscription to "The Production Book" , and of course the treasured, laser etched, YFFQ trophies.
In Xanthe's prize pool: A weekend workshop with the NIDA open program. NIDA is the School of Dramatic Art that fostered talent the likes of Kate Blanchette. A day on the road with the Shak. The Shak is a popular and informative nationally broadcast TV show for the 15 to 18 age group. A 6 month subscription to "The Production Book", and of course the treasured, laser etched, YFFQ trophy.

Lemac Best Cinematography Award
Young Filmmakers Festival Queensland presents "Keep Me" Which won the "Lemac Best Cinematography Award", along with "Best Editor" going to Kelsie Rimmer
This is a beautifully shot and edited music clip. Kelsie sings about the value of enduring relationships.
In Kelsie's prize pool: A day on location with Fury Productions, a $250.00 gift voucher from Zacuto USA, a "DOP/Designer Collaboration" and a "On-set Etiquette", one-day course with AFTRS. Along with one week work experience with Cutting Edge, an iPod Nano from Next Byte and a 6 month subscription to the "Production Book", and of course the treasured, laser etched, YFFQ trophies.

QUT Best Director Award
Young Filmmakers Festival Queensland presents "Standing Tall", which won the "QUT Best Director 2009 Award" for Matt Turner.
A young man is enraged when the young woman he has feelings for, rejects him. His anger leads to her murder. Her younger brother discovers the woman’s body. He is pursued by the murderer and shot in the arm. Unable to escape the assailant or find help on the vast property the boy realises his only chance is to fight off the murderer alone. Even though he is much smaller and weaker he finds the courage to face his attacker in a dual. The murderer has the advantage and quickly fells the boy with one shot. As the murder walks away he scoffs, “That’s clever”

Young Filmmakers Festival Queensland presents "Homeless News", which won the "Best Performance Male" for Michael Wills.
